Pre-treatment with Ranitidine is Successful in Helicobacter pylori Eradication
According to a study published in the ‘Tohoku Journal of Experimental Medicine’, ranitidine bismuth citrate (RBC) pretreatment before standard triple therapy for Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) eradication showed higher H. pylori eradication rates. This study involved a prospective, randomized, controlled, and open-label clinical trial to compare the H. pylori eradication rates between standard treatment groups and BC pre-treatment groups.
The key findings were as follows:
- Higher success rates of H. pylori eradication with RBC pre-treatment for 2 weeks.
- Excellent safety and tolerability was observed in the BC pre-treatment group.
- The standard treatment group showed comparatively higher adverse event rates.
- No serious adverse events were observed in either of the groups.
In conclusion, the results of the study suggested that RBC pre-treatment for 2 weeks added to the standard therapy with esomeprazole, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin for 7 days is highly effective, safe and tolerable in eradication of Helicobacter pylori.
